Regulus and Spica are 56 (an interesting allusion to the 5○=6□ degree of the Golden Dawn, which brought one into the inner Rosicrucian part of the order and also the Qabalistic equivalent of NU, being an aspect of Nuit, the night sky) degrees apart. This is easily rounded off to 60, providing more mathematics for us. If we divide 60 into the 2,160 years that comprise an aeon, we get 36 (the number of the decans of the Zodiac).
However, we should note that because of the elliptical nature of the Earth's orbit, the precession of the equinoxes does not actually work in this neat mathematical pattern of 72 years. The suggestion of 72 years would assume a perfecting of the circular nature of the Earth's orbit, which would be the unfolding of 'heaven on earth'. This would seem to be the hidden prophecy inside the idea that the Shemhamphoresch is the 72-lettered name of God. And note that one of the oldest names for God is Enki with 'En' or 'An' or 'On' meaning sky in ancient Sumerian and 'Ki' meaning Earth.
